PHU QUOC

Off the coast of Cambodia, in the Gulf of Thailand, the largest island in Vietnam Phu Quoc Island is famous for its white sand beaches, resorts, and 150km coastline with turquoise water. It is the most popular destination in Vietnam.

Things to Do

1. Chill at the beaches. The thing that you can't miss doing on an island. Besides swimming and sunbathing, the clear water also makes Phu Quoc Island a perfect snorkelling spot. The popular one are Sao Beach, Long Beach, North Long Beach and South Long Beach, where Sao Beach is arguably the most picturesque. There is also Starfish Beach where it's known for starfish to gather on the sandbar just offshore.

2. Phu Quoc Cable Car. The 15-minute journey allows you to enjoy the best scenery of the island, flying through the sky on top of the fish boats and oversee the whole turquoise sea view. The end destination is Pineapple Island where there is a nature reserve and a peaceful beach. 

3. Islands hopping on a boat tour. Plenty of island trips are offered for you to discover the surrounding islands. Tours normally include lunch and fruit, as well as snorkelling at various islands.

4. Visit Vinpearl Land. Located in the north of the island, the largest amusement park complex in Southwest Vietnam satisfy with its interesting and sophisticated villas, beaches, underwater games, and water park. You can use the bus from Vinpearl resort that departs from Phu Quoc airport for round trip. Other than the convenience, amazingly it is completely free. 

5. Visit night market. The Duong Dong night market is the place to go after the sun set. The are huge selections of local food in the market including freshly-caught seafood. Many tourists will also come to this place to have dinner and enjoy the vibe at the same time.

6. Rent a motorbike. Most of the hotels offer motorbike rental service, and if not, it is also possible to rent from dedicated motorbike rental shop. It will cost you around $6-$12 a day and it is more convenient to ride a bike to farther destinations like Vinpearl Land.  

Accommodation

Most of the accommodations here are villas and resorts as this is a paradise for pure relaxation. Plenty of selections for different budget and locations, from local brands to international 5 star brands. As the island is not too big, every location is deemed convenient but try to choose one nearer to the center. Guesthouse is also another affordable option if you do not want empty your wallet. 

Transport

There is a small airport on the Island, which services domestic flights from Ho Chi Minh city and Hanoi, and international flight from Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Phnom Penh. Getting there by plane is the easier way but if you want to go by ferry, there are services from Vietnamese port of Ha Tien and Rach Gia. Within the island, you may take taxi or motorbike ride or walk if you are only wandering around the center. You may also rent a motorbike to go around at very affordable price with your accommodation. Phu Quoc is very good for riding as there is no much traffic here and roads are easy to navigate.

Recommended Length of Trip

Two to three nights are more than enough. This is also a popular spot for people to spend their long weekend or for a short trip. You may stay longer if you are into diving as there are few diving spots for diving activities.

Best Time to Travel

Phu Quoc has tropical climate and high temperature throughout the year. The driest month is February and the wettest is September. The average temperature of all months are normally high with no big difference but the hottest one is from April to June.
