MUI NE
Mui Ne is a beach resort town along the sea in Southeast Vietnam. Thanks to its long beach and steady wind conditions, It becomes the popular destination for windsurfing, kitesurfing, sailing and other water sports. It is a top long weekend getaway place from Ho Chi Minh City.
Things to Do
1. Visit the Red Sand Dunes. White Sand Dunes is one of the landmark in Mui Ne. It is just couple of kilometers from the center and can be reached on foot as well. You will feel like you are in desert just right next to the beach. This is also a place to capture gorgeous sunset, and also always included in the day tour.
2. Quad biking at White Sand Dunes. Rent a quad bike and have a joyful ride at the White Sand Dunes. After you tire yourself, you can walk over to the lotus pond and spend the afternoon watching the sun to go down. You may arrange with the tour guide if you want to enjoy the sunset here so he adjust the itinerary accordingly.
3. Visit early morning fish market. Every morning the fishermen get their fresh catch to the shore and their family members will sell it to local traders, restaurant owners or street vendors. You will see fishing nets full of overflowing seafood in the chaotic early morning fish market.
4. Visit the Fairy Stream. It is normally included in the day tour as this is one of the most famous spot in Mui Ne. The stream is surrounded by limestone formations, while tucked between beaches and fishing villages. After you walk through the limestones, warm water and green trees, you will reach a waterfall. You may carry your shoes or deposit them at the entrance as you need to walk in the stream. Remember not to wear long pants or long dress to make your life easier.
5. Spend time on beach. Besides the beautiful sun, sea, sand, there are also water activities for you to enjoy the day. There are some isolated beaches perfect for picnic, one of the popular one is the Hon Rom Beach which you will see when driving past Red Sand Dunes towards the White Sand Dunes.
6. Learn kitesurfing. Mui Ne has number of windy beaches which are perfect for kitesurfing. There are also plenty of kitesurfing schools offering courses for amateurs and beginners at very competitive price.
7. Seafood dinner in night. Nothing is better than seafood to be on your plate for dinner in Mui Ne. It is just fresh from the sea in Mui Ne and prices are very cheap. Have a seafood feast here before heading back to Ho Chi Minh City.
8. Sunrise and sunset. Sunrise and sunset is just purely wonderful and magical in this little village. With the orange sky, coloured boats and turquoise water, you will capture the best photos to help you remember how beautiful your journey was.
Accommodation
From backpacker hostels at $10 per night to beach resorts to Bungalow at $200 per night, the range for big enough for selection. Compared to other beach city like Nha Trang and Da Nang, accommodation in Mui Ne is relatively much cheaper. If you are travelling with family or friend, resort is more recommended as it is more affordable in Mui Ne and most of the time people only stay for one or two nights here.
Transport
Taking bus from Ho Chi Minh City is the easiest way. It will take you around 5 hours for the near-to-220km journey in a sleeper bus. Taxis, private cars and limo buses are the faster and more comfortable options, but of course at a higher cost. You can always ask the travel agencies in Ho Chi Minh City for the prices. But if you are adventurous enough, you may also rent a motorbike to depart from Ho Chi Minh City. It will be exhausting and of course the comfort of the trip will depend on the weather and your luck. The rental costs you $8-10 daily and gas cost you around $5 daily. Alternatively, there is train service from Ho Chi Minh City too, which only arrives in Phan Thiet that you will need to transit with another 30-minute taxi ride to Mui Ne. Vice versa for the way back to Ho Chi Minh City from Mui Ne. Within the city, you need to get taxi or private jeep ride to get around. Alternatively, you may rent a motorbike if you can ride. It is easier to book a day tour with your hotel that the driver will bring you to all the famous destinations in a jeep then after all send you back to the hotel.
Recommended Length of Trip
Most of the time people stay for one to two nights as most of the sights can be visited in one day. But if you want to adventure to more places or spend more time at the beaches, then you may also stay for three night. If you arrive late on the first day, then. you can book a day tour on second day and go back to Ho Chi Minh City on the last day.
Best Time to Travel
The rainy season lasts from May to October, while dry season start from November to April. Generally the best time to travel is from November to March as the sky is always sunny with strong winds that is perfect for water activities.
